Steps To Renovate a Kitchen

August 12, 2016 | Kitchen Renovations

Thinking of Renovating Your Kitchen?

If you’re thinking of renovating your kitchen, the 2 main things to consider before starting are how much you have budgeted to spend and which kitchens company you will use. Once you can answer these questions, the many options and choices you’ll need to make will all fall into place without unnecessary stress during the kitchen renovation.

What Will a New Kitchen Cost?

The cost of a new kitchen or kitchen renovation will be determined by the size of the kitchen, as well as the standard of finishes and appliances you require.

As a rule of thumb, most homeowners spend between 4% and 10% of the value of their home on a new kitchen (even during kitchen renovation).

It’s important not to over-capitalise when doing home renovations, and a new kitchen is typically an area where your investment can be significant.

It’s possible to purchase a basic new kitchen for a lot less than $10,000, while the upper end of the scale is impossible to define, particularly when the cost of new appliances is factored-in.

Imperial Kitchens will work with you to ensure that your budget stretches as far as possible. We know it’s important that you are completely satisfied with your new kitchen.

Common sense dictates that you wouldn’t install an $80,000 kitchen in a home worth $300,000, or a $7,000 kitchen in a million-dollar mansion.

Which Kitchens Company Will I Use?

It’s critical that you choose a reputable, trustworthy company to build your new kitchen. We recognise you’re making a significant financial commitment and we’ll take our responsibilities to you very seriously.

Nearly all of the work we undertake for private clients comes via referrals from our happy clients.

Imperial Kitchens has been designing, building and installing kitchens for more than 20 years. That means we’ve got more than 30,000 kitchens worth of experience.

We are long-standing members of HIA, we’re fully insured and all of our work is covered by warranty. We employ more than 80 staff, most of whom are expert tradespeople with decades of experience.

Our designers are very experienced tradespeople who know what will and won’t work in your kitchen. We also have access to all the contemporary materials, finishes and products. We stay up-to-date with current trends.

What Kitchen Design Will Suit My Home and My Needs?

The style of kitchen you choose will be determined, to some extent, by the space you have available. Owners of large homes can choose any design they favour. While smaller spaces may be better suited to a straight-line kitchen or L-shaped kitchen.

Many homeowners want an island bench. However, you should be mindful of how an island will impact movement around the kitchen.

If your kitchen space is an irregular shape, it’s no problem for Imperial Kitchens. All of our kitchens are custom-made to fit your home perfectly – unlike some of our competitors who will happily sell you a series of modular cabinets.

Do I Need to Buy New Appliances?

Whether you decide to purchase new appliances or re-use existing ones.  This is a personal choice that will be determined by your budget and the age and appearance of the appliances you own.

While it may seem an attractive option to re-use existing appliances, older, worn-out appliances can really detract from the overall look of your new kitchen.

Imperial Kitchens doesn’t sell appliances. However, we do have commercial relationships with industry-leading suppliers who will provide you with new appliances at very competitive prices.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to new appliances, that’s OK. However, if you’d like to update them, we’d be happy for you to take advantage of the contacts we’ve made in the industry … and pocket the savings!

What Materials Will I Choose?

The range of new materials and products that are available is constantly changing with space-saving, functionality and appearance being the main objectives.

There are new laminates that look very similar to marble, textured and high-gloss laminates, and an extensive range of engineered stones such as CaesarStone and Smartstone.

Wire-ware has revolutionised storage in previously inaccessible spaces such as corner cabinets and pantries. Our modern showroom features three new kitchens with a range of options on display for you to try before buying, perfect for new kitchens or kitchen renovations.

What Products Are Available?

Most of our clients are unaware of what’s available because it’s not every day that you have a kitchen renovation!

Imperial Kitchens are experts who make a point of understanding what is available.

Perhaps the most significant trend in new products over the past few years is the range of products that maximise useable space in your kitchen while keeping clutter out of sight. You’d be amazed at what we can achieve in relatively small spaces. In larger spaces you’re only limited by your imagination!

You can trust Imperial Kitchens with your new kitchen project. Our designers are expert tradespeople who will work with you until you are satisfied with the design.

We will install your new kitchen on the agreed date and we have teams of after-sales specialists to ensure everything works correctly after installation.
