House Rules 2020 Laundry

April 14, 2020 | House Rules 2020

Who says a laundry has to be boring? Certainly not the contestants on House Rules High Stakes 2020. This laundry is bright, colourful and functional….defying conventional design and the perception of many people that this part of the home should be hidden. It’s just a place to do dreary household chores like washing and ironing some would say. If you’d like to take inspiration from this laundry the cabinets here are Polar White Matt, with Bronze Leaf Matt features. Both cabinetry products are by Polytec. The benchtop is engineered stone by Smartstone in a finish called Calacatta Crema. There’s no doubt if you can afford it that a stone benchtop elevates any laundry to the next level. All in all this is definitely one of the more interesting laundries we’ve been involved in designing.

Many laundries are simple utilitarian rooms that display very little design flair or any attempt to integrate with the rest of a home in a meaningful way. However the much-maligned laundry needn’t be the “poor-relation” room in your home. While bright colours and patterned wallpaper may not be to your taste, you can achieve a stylish design by incorporating all the essential design elements in a package that still ticks all the necessary boxes. Just add aesthetic elements such as gold or black handles, drying rails, and matching tapware. If you’d like a pop of colour, perhaps consider a tiled or glass splashback. To create interest subway tiles laid in a herringbone pattern are a very popular choice.
